It's because he's the first Libertarian candidate to have more than a snowball's chance in hell ever. Basically all the wing nuts are "OMGZ!!!11!!" over him because their candidate just might come in third or fourth instead of dead last.
Who'd of thought that all a Libertarian would have to do is run as a Republican to be considered viable. Weird.

i'm pretty surprised it took this long for the a libertarian to run as a repulblican. just as much wingnuttery, similar demographic [well, at least compared to part of the republican party--the rich, white, privileged part...], better exposure.

I think that most Libertarians refuse to acknowledge any connection to the right wing of politics. At least my friends who are Libertarians feel that way.
It's crazy how many nutters consider themselves Libertarians. The Libertarian party's rational thinkers:wing nut ratio is almost on par with anarchism.

Ron Paul? DO NOT WANT/<3. I mean, Libertarianism, like Communism, is attractive at first glance, but then you realize the batshit nuttery that comes along with it and...DO NOT WANT.

Also, he doesn't believe in evolution, thus failing my "is this person an idiot?" test. A fucking doctor who doesn't believe in evolution.

i agree with your assessment of libertarianism, and the comparison to communism. a lot of people who "follow" both philosophies are nuts. furthermore, as nice as certain parts of either may be in theory, it's just impractical to think that human beings are going to put the ideas into practice in a way that will even resemble being fair.

i didn't know Paul didn't believe in evolution. *headslap* the idea of a doctor not believing in evolution is giving me a profound case of brain freeze.
